Weather Webcam San Jorge (Velas): Follow the time-lapse weather Webcam Live Weather-the San Jorge. Sao Jorge is one of the central group of the Azores, is 233.5 square kilometers and is 53 kilometers long stretched from north-northwest to south-southeast and up to eight kilometers wide between the neighboring islands of Graciosa and Terceira in the north, Faial in the west and Pico in the south. Capital is Velas with about 1,900 inhabitants. In Sao Jorge live a total of about 10,500 people. The island of Sao Jorge was first mentioned in 1439 and colonized by Flemish Wilhelm van der Haegen. The special features of the island of San Jorge include the so-called Fajas on fertile coastal alluvium over Geroellflaechen below the steep faces oceanfront.
