In avalanche winter of 1951 went down in Vals an avalanche after in the valley within a few days, almost two meters of fresh snow had fallen.
Although the mayor of Vals located above the evacuation of endangered houses, but this was not or only partially complied with. Prompt went down a large avalanche. 11 houses and 12 barns were covered by the avalanche. A total of 30 people were buried, of which 19 died, including 14 children.
