Augsburg lies at the rivers Lech and Wertach. The oldest part of the city and the southern district are on the northern foothills of a high terrace that has arisen between the steep hill outskirts of Friedberg in the east and the high Riedeln the western hills rim.
At Augsburg borders the Natural Park Augsburg - Western forests, a large forest area. In addition, however, the city itself is heavily vegetated, so Augsburg received the prize as the greenest and most liveable city in the European competition Entente Florale. The city is the largest forest owners in Bavaria.
