Giglio, a small island in the Mediterranean, along with the neighboring island of Giannutri forms the municipality of Isola del Giglio. Giglio is the province of Grosseto Tuscany region of Italy. The name of the island (Giglio) goes back to the Latinization Aegilium, derived from the Greek word aix, Aigos means goat. Giglio is located about 50 kilometers southeast of Elba and about 18 kilometers west of the peninsula of Monte Argentario. The neighboring islands of Giglio are Elba, Pianosa, Giannutri, which belongs to the municipality Giglio, and the uninhabited island of Monte Cristo.
